Earnings Preview: U.S. Bancorp

U.S. Bancorp (USB) is expected to report Q3 earnings before market open Tuesday, Oct. 21, with a conference call scheduled for 7:30 am.

Analysts are looking for EPS of 47c on revenue of $3.81B. The consensus range for EPS is 38c to 61c, while the consensus range for revenue is $3.59B to $3.95B, according to First Call.

Analyst Views

Citigroup recently upgraded the bank to Hold from Sell, as the firm thinks the bank will benefit from the government's capital injection plan. Last month, the Chicago Tribune reported that most analysts consider U.S. Bancorp to be one of the nation's stronger banks. BB&T Equity Income Fund manager George Shipp believes that U.S. Bancorp has performed relatively well because it was fairly conservative in its real estate investments during the housing boom.

The bank announced a quarterly dividend of 42.5c in September.
