Stocks discussed in the lightning round session of Jim Cramer’s Mad Money TV program, Thursday, October 23.

Bullish Calls:

Altria (MO) -- “I'm a buyer of this one. It might be the only buy in this whole lightning round. I am bullish on this stock for two reasons – people don’t stop smoking just because of a recession and the dividend yield is great.”
Kroger (KR) -- “Kroger’s a better supermarket stock. It has better margins and is a better company.”

Bearish Calls:

Supervalu (SVU) -- “No, no. If we're recommending a supermarket, we're going with Kroger.”
Western Digital (WDC) -- “Western Digital is selling at 5 times earnings. But in this market 5 times earnings can easily become 4 times earnings, so at $12 a share, then we'll get excited."
Lincoln National (LNC) -- "A government guarantee of insurance annuities would really help Lincoln. If that doesn’t happen, investors probably want to steer clear of this stock."
Consol Energy (CNX) -- "This stock is so knocked down it is incredible. If you think McCain is going to win, then these coal stocks are a buy, but  if you’re leaning Obama stay away."

Jim Cramer was smart enough to stop smoking (I know of at least one time) and he is also one of the smartest investors on Wall Street.

Louis Rukeyser taught me that the best and brightest stock pickers are not better than a room full of monkeys tossing darts at a dart board.

Therefore, I listen to Jim, for the same reason I listened to Louis Rukeyser's guests: because he is entertaining.

In fact, Jim is a lot more fun than a room full of monkeys and I think he knows it.

MO is a good recommendation....I am an owner of PM (Philip Morris). The yeild with the strong market and partial protection from economic conditions is great characteristic that most 'sin' stocks carry and should be a part of any diversified portfolio.
