Even though the S&P 500 is down 30% since Bush was confirmed as President in 2000, Russell 1,000 stocks based in his hometown of Houston are up an average of 165%. Granted, these are mostly Energy companies that saw huge gains during oil's multi-year rally during Bush's tenure, but it's still an interesting data point.

With Bush's hometown stocks performing so well during his Presidency, we thought we'd highlight the companies based in and around the hometowns of Obama (Chicago) and McCain (Phoenix).
Some of the more notable names in Chicago include Baxter (BAX), McDonald's (MCD), Kraft Foods (KFT), Walgreen (WAG), Boeing (BA), Sears (SHLD), CME, and Motorola (MOT). Key companies in Phoenix include Apollo Group (APOL), PetSmart (PETM), First Solar (FSLR), and Southern Peru Copper (PCU). Depending on who wins today, we'll keep an index of the two groups of "hometown" stocks to see how they do over the next four years.
