With Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) short interest increasing by quite a bit recently, there's been a lot of talk about Apple's volatility picking up as well. Below we highlight the 50-day rolling average absolute daily percentage change for Apple going back to the start of 2001.

As shown, over the last 50 trading days, Apple has averaged a daily move of +/-1.71%. While this isn't high compared to Apple's average daily move over the last 10-plus years, it is high compared to its average move over the last three years.

As shown in the bottom chart, the stock is currently at the top of its volatility range over the last three years. Either Apple is due for a pullback in volatility based on its recent range, or we're going to see a breakout in volatility to levels not seen since the financial crisis.
