This index and new ETF idea is designed to provide investors with more diversified exposure in terms of geography, market cap range, and healthcare business segment as compared to the existing sector-based health ETFs which are analyzed in this article and tend to own similar large-cap healthcare stocks such as Johnson & Johnson (JNJ), Pfizer (PFE), Abbott Labs (ABT) on an overweight basis.

While this index also has some exposure to widely held names such as JNJ, ABT, and Genentech (DNA); it is structured as an equally weighted index with quarterly updates and includes more diverse exposure to a wider range of small and mid-cap companies such as Osiris Therapeutics (OSIR), Sequenom (SQNM), SXC Health Solutions (SXCI), Neogen (NEOG), and other companies on a global basis.
