April Same Store Sales mixed but overall positive

Luxury and Teen retailers reported strong sales gains, but discount stores such as Target and Wal-Mart posted weaker than expected results.

Comments:

• Soaring gas price should affect Wal-Mart more than most other retailers due to the fact that Wal-Mart owns the largest fleet of private trucks in the world.
• Retailers who posted April Same Store Sales above analyst's estimates included: Nieman Marcus, Nordstrom, Inc., Talbots Inc., Costco Wholesale Corp., Federated Department Stores Inc., and J.C. Penney.
