Google (GOOG), Yahoo (YHOO) and MSN/Windows (MSFT) Live were the most popular websites in 2008; Yahoo Mail, Google Search and Gmail were the top mobile websites; and the Motorola (MOT) RAZR V3 series was the most popular cell-phone handset, according to The Nielsen Company, which released its annual “Top 10″ internet and mobile website rankings for the year.

Top 10 Websites Accessed over Mobile Phones (US) - October 2008:

In addition to holding the top spot on the mobile handset list with the RAZR V3, which has a 9.3% embedded base of all subscribers, Motorola also nabbed the #2 spot with its MotoKRZR, which was followed in popularity by LG’s VX8300 series and Apple’s (AAPL) iPhone.

    I think that as our internet infrastructure is improved and access expands we will see a greater trend towards mobi sites. Particularly in the retail sector right now its social media but i expect a growth in the retail trend.

    The RAZR can thank its popularity for its similarity to the Star Trek communicator. Nine percent of the US population are trekkies? Sounds about right. The Motorola logo looking very much like the Star Fleet insignia doesn't hurt either... Top notch marketing Motorola, but what have you done for us lately?
