Earning season is in full swing and if you're a Dividend Growth investor with money to spend I'm sure you've been busy putting together your watch list. If you read my recent article on my portfolio business plan you know that one of my requirements is to maintain an active watch list and review and modify that list quarterly.
I want to thank all those that commented on my business plan and offered suggestions for its improvement. Frankly I didn't see the interest I expected but it's hard to get folks to focus on discipline when the market is on a run.
Each of the members of my watch list has passed the hurdle of a year by year performance and dividend growth rule going back to 2002. With few exceptions made for stocks that don't go back that long, each must have incurred fewer than 4 down years over the last 11. My goal is to have a diversified watch list that can serve as replacements for current holdings should it become necessary to replace. Finally I have focused this time around in part on some higher beta selections, in order to begin becoming more comfortable with the day to day patterns and swings associated with such holdings. Now don't get excited and envision me backing up the truck and adding high beta. My goal is to give myself a little more flexibility in this area.
The charts below contain the stocks I am currently actively watching. Those highlighted in bold are not currently members of the Dividend Champions, Challenges or Contenders. I try to maintain approximately 20-25 stocks in the active list. When you do your due diligence you will find that some of the stocks listed are currently overvalued, clearly the by-product of an overheated market.
I have also added Estimated 5-Yr. Growth as a measure for those stocks I'm considering for purchase this time around. A safe and growing stream of income from growing dividends remains my central focus. What better way to insure that trend continues than to add companies expected to grow earnings over the next 5 years? I think we can all agree that a little capital gain helps folks like us sleep well at night.
I'm looking forward to any comments you may have on the stocks I'm tracking. What's great about Seeking Alpha is how much we learn from each other.
Next time out I'll have an up-date on my existing portfolio including the results of my 4 Quarter Portfolio Review.
