Cramer's Game Plan: Hard-Landing Stocks - Cramer revealed his newest strategy of unveiling every Friday his 'playbook' stocks for the following week. Although Cramer dismisses full-blown recession fears as unfounded, he recommends the following "hard-landing" stocks which will perform well in a slow economy:
Cramer's Offense: Soft-Landing Stocks: - Cramer touts these stocks as winners if the market remains steady, experiencing merely a 'soft landing':
1. Caterpillar (CAT)
3. Chesapeake Energy (CHK)
4. Nabors Industries (NBR)
5. Jos A Bank Clothiers (JOSB)
Go Green with SunPower (SPWR), Headwaters (HW) and Evergreen Solar(ESLR) - According to Cramer's calculations, if oil goes up, its high price should bring up alternative energy sources as well. Cramer comments that "the gods of Wall Street have forgotten how to do math," and alternative energy is low and seems destined to rise. Cramer notes that the new Treasury Secretary, Henry Paulson, is a fan of alternative energy, particularly windpower. SunPower (SPWR) is a stock that has fallen 32% from its 52 week high, and remains low on an earnings and revenue basis. Cramer expects to see a bounce from SPWR. Although Headwaters may lose some synthetic-fuel business, Cramer believes that its clean coal and ethanol exposure should compensate. Finally, Evergreen Solar, which is down 36%, is "the fastest-growing and cheapest of the group," comments Cramer.
Speculation and Ivanhoe (IVAN) - Cramer discussed speculative stocks, using Ivanhoe as a case study. Cramer mentioned reports that indicate the stock could be worth $14.67 a share, around 400% its current value, but recommended caution. Ivanhoe has a 10 year patent in the US and Canada to transform heavy oil into more valuable light crude oil, and Cramer praises this untapped potential. He suggests purchasing the stock if it drops to $2.
The Winning Orphan: Dynamic Materials (BOOM) - Cramer delievered on his promise to elect the winning Orphan stock. The finalists were: Dynamic Materials (BOOM), Electro Rent (ELRC), NetScout Systems (NTCT), Layne Christensen (LAYN), and Vaalco Energy (EGY). Cramer's pick is Dynamic Materials.
