Since my December 31, 2012 article titled "3 Stocks With Recent Intensive Insider Buying", the stocks that I featured in the article have performed as follows:

CompanyPrice 12/28Price 2/5Change %
AMRS$2.45$3.15+28.6%
CFIS$1.06$1.26+18.9%
TAT$0.83$0.89+7.2%

In this article I will feature five additional stocks that have seen intensive insider buying during the last 30 days. To find these stocks, I used a site called "Open Insider" and manually went through the companies.

Intensive insider buying can be defined by the following three criteria:

  1. The stock is purchased by three or more insiders within one month.
  2. The stock is sold by no insiders in the month of intensive purchasing.

  3. At least two purchasers increase their holdings by more than 10%.

The next major catalysts for the stock are expected in 2014. I have a cautiously bullish bias for the stock currently based on the intensive insider buying.

Net income$0.4 million

Outlook

Domestic and global population growth is the major driver behind increased demand for farmland to feed the growing population. The U.S. Census bureau estimates that the U.S. population will grow by 10.0% during the current decade to 348 million people and the global population will grow by 11.8% over the same period to approximately 8 billion people worldwide.

In addition to population growth spurring demand for farmland, changing consumption patterns also contribute to the increasing value of farmland. As large nations such as China and India modernize, their consumption of meat protein continues to increase. It takes over five times the amount of grain to produce an equivalent amount of calories in meat protein, so as the demand for meat protein increases it is expected that the demand for grains will increase.

At the same time that there is demand for more food to feed an increasing population, there is increasing demand for urban and suburban uses of farmland. The increased demand due to population growth and changing consumption patterns, coupled with the development of agricultural land for urban and industrial purposes, could result in significant upward pressure on farmland prices as farmland is converted to urban or suburban uses. This is a major investment thesis of Gladstone Land business.

My analysis

The stock started trading on January 29 after the initial public offering. There have been six different insiders buying and there have not been any insiders selling the shares since the IPO. The insiders purchased the stock at $14 share price which could be a good entry point for the stock.
