The Chubb Corp. (NYSE:CB) is expected to report Q4 earnings after the market close on Thursday, January 29 with a conference call scheduled for 5:00 pm ET.
Analysts are looking for EPS of $1.52 on revenue of $2.96B. The consensus range for EPS is $1.45 to $1.65, while the consensus range for revenue is $2.92B to $3.05B, according to First Call.
Two other insurance companies have reported divergent Q4 results in recent days, with Allstate (NYSE:ALL) reporting much weaker than expected results, and Travelers (NYSE:TRV) beating expectations. Analysts' outlook on Chubb have been mixed in the last several weeks. Bank of America/Merrill today upgraded Chubb to Buy from Neutral. Based partly on a recent study, the firm believes concerns about Chubb's credit crisis related losses are overblown. In addition, the firm expects commercial insurance prices to stabilize. But in November Barclays downgraded Chubb to Equal Weight from Overweight, as the firm thinks the company will report higher losses due to the turmoil in the financial markets.
The Wall Street Journal's "Heard on the Street" column recently suggested that insurance premiums are not rising as quickly now as in the past.
