Jim Cramer's Mad Money In-Depth Stock Picks 6/12
The Top of the Bottom: WCI Communities (WCI) - Cramer suggests that the best way to play the falling market is by looking for a stock that has bottomed and is bound to go up. He dismisses opinions that technology stocks, such as Intel (INTC), Microsoft (MSFT) Cisco Systems (CSCO), and Sun Microsystems (SUN) have reached their lowest point. He recommends looking at stocks with very low price-to-earnings multiples. This was the case with Houston Exploration (THX), which bottomed recently, but is going back up. After reporting the worst quarter of the year, WCI is a stock that Cramer says simply cannot go lower, and has a great potential for an upswing, because it will build quality homes for retiring baby boomers.
Jumping Ship: Evan Jones and Digene (DIGE) - Even though Digene has been performing well, Cramer suggests dumping it immediately, because longtime CEO, Evan Jones, has recently left without publicly explaining his departure. "When high-ranking people leave for personal reasons, I think you'd better leave the stock for financial reasons," Cramer said, and cited other companies, such as Nortel (NT) which fell flat when its CEOs left. Cramer is emphatic that no potential upside in such a case is worth the risk, but when asked if Wrigley (WWY) should be dropped for the same reason, Cramer responded that the departure of the senior executive was not important enough to affect the stock.
Good for a Trade: TiVo (TIVO)- Cramer says this stock has a few things going for it, including its DVR deal with Comcast (CMSCA), its victory in the patent case against EchoStar Communications (DISH), and a good CEO, Tom Rogers. However, on the downside, TiVo's digital video recording technology is being duplicated by other companies, and TiVo's growth has been inconsistent. Although Cramer concludes that this TiVo is not for investing, it is a good stock "to trade around."
