General comment: Riding the Wave
The Fed is making a series of speeches this week which could spin the market into volatility as investors worry about interest rates, cautions Cramer. He suggests riding the wave by buying stocks that are low, especially if the market is down 100, and to beware of rallies. On a side note, Cramer denies that the Web will help television companies, and that old-fashioned media should stick with traditional advertising.
A Word to the Wise
Cramer observes that some analysts can really move the market, but investors need to know which experts are worth listening to. Those who paid attention to Citigroup analyst Jason Bazinet's advice buy Walt Disney (DIS) made a profit, while Cobb Sadler, an analyst at Deutsche Bank Securities, should not have recommended Tellabs (TLAB). Adding his own 2 cents worth, Cramer says that the least we are looking for from the Fed is a break from raising interest rates, and that investors should buy low and sell high.
Bullish calls:
Neutral/Bearish calls:Dow Chemical (DOW): Cramer observes that this stock is growing at 11% and has a price-to-earnings multiple of 8. Dow is the biggest purchaser of natural gas, and is at a 52 week low.
General Motors (GM): Cramer is not letting go of GM, because it has a great product.
ConocoPhillips (COP): Cramer can't account for the fact that COP is growing 8.5% and has six times earnings, but is still down. He suggested taking a "longer term view" of the stock.
Fortune Brands (FO): Cramer called this a "smoking good business," but suggest buying it in stages.
Avanir Pharmaceuticals (AVNR): Cramer notes that this speculative stock is consistently going down.
Goldcorp (GG): Although Cramer predicts this stock will be a winner in the long run, he notes that it has fallen dramatically. He suggests picking it up again at $20.
Halliburton (HAL): Cramer is wary of this stock.
Sotheby's (BID): This counter-cyclical play will fall again, according to Cramer
