Amid all the focus on Nortel’s (NT) bankruptcy filing, the business continues to operate even it it’s future is still far from certain. So, it’s interesting to see news about Nortel developing a new services router that could allow applications to operate with networking equipment. According to InternetNews.com, the new router could compete against the HP (HPQ) ProCurve One product, and a blade server platform from Cisco (CSCO).
“We absolutely believe this is a trend that networks will continue to redefine the way that almost every enterprise application that you’re familiar with today can be deployed,” John McHugh, Nortel’s new vice president of enterprise solutions, told InternetNews.com. “There is no reason why various network service functions and ultimately applications will not eventually slide into the actual fabric of the network.”
McHugh was hired last month by Nortel after working with HP where he oversaw the growth of the ProCurve business.
