Greetings

Greetings. This is the first new Sound Money Tip in a good while but I hope it won't be the last. I'm your new Sound Money Tipster bringing you the best ideas and tidbits of information with an extra measure of prudence, frugality and careful choices. I hope you will contribute by commenting and I will try to end each article with a question for you to get your teeth into.

So, here we go...

Everyone you know has migrated their personal correspondence online. Gone are the days when we sifted through the contents of the mailbox to find the letters amongst the bills.

Perhaps the last holdout for personalized snail mail is greetings cards. Whether for birthdays, anniversaries or other special days, we still find ourselves making that trip to the store and choosing the right sentiment and the right picture. But this too is starting to change. There is now a wide choice of online greetings card companies to choose from each with a healthy variety of occasions and room to add a special remark.

Blue Mountain.com allows you to sign in and set up reminders for all the major events in your life and the lives of your family members. They offer animated eCards that can be delivered directly to a loved one’s inbox.

Egreetings.com includes an address book, but no way of synching with your existing contacts. One downside here is that you have to watch a video ad before you can preview your choice of animated greetings card.

AmericanGreetings.com also offers the chance to send out invitations to a party or event alongside the usual greetings card possibilities.

There may still be an argument that says that ripping open an envelope and hanging up your cards is a wonderful ritual that shouldn’t be digitized, but if you’re watching the pennies or even if you’re a little forgetful, a well-place Ecard can be a wonderful alternative.

Let me know in the comments if you send Ecards and what you feel about receiving them.

I'm actually undecided about ecards. At first I thought they were a bit cheap, but now I've had a couple that made me crack a smile. Don't know whether I'd send one, though.
Great to have you back, look forward to more tips in the coming days.
