Computer Savings

Here are some quick tips about saving energy with your computer.

Next time you are ready to upgrade your computer, think about buying a laptop. Laptops tend to consume considerably less energy than desktop computers and you won’t have to worry about power cuts.

When you finish using your laptop, disconnect the adaptor completely. The adaptor will continue to draw small amounts power even if it’s not connected to the laptop.

No matter how fascinating, a screen saver will never save as much energy as switching off your monitor all together.

Your computer probably has some energy-saving settings ready to be configured, but try to remember that these only work if you set and apply them.

Don’t forget to apply your energy saving principles to all your computer peripherals as well. That means disconnecting your printer, router, modem and anything else as well when you’re not using it. The best thing is to have them all connected to the same power strip and then you only have to flick one switch when you’re going to be away from the computer for some time.

Do you have any advice for energy-conscious computer users?
