Finishing off the week at a new bull market high, the bull market in the S&P 500 will celebrate its fourth birthday this weekend. At 1,460 days and counting, the current bull market is now the eighth longest of all time. If the rally lasts another two months, the current bull will move into sixth place all time.
In terms of strength, the current bull market is even higher on the list. Since the closing low on March 9, 2009, the S&P 500 has rallied 129.3%, which ranks sixth all time. If the S&P 500 can manage to rally another 17 points, the current bull will move up the ladder to fifth strongest all time.
While the S&P 500 has rallied 129.3% since the March 9, 2009, lows, many stocks are up by a lot more. It has taken four years, but it looks as if more and more people are finally coming around to the fact that it is in fact a bull market. Let's just hope the birthday celebrations don't cause too much of a hangover as we enter year five on Monday.
