Recently Nicemac, the developers of the first Satellite Radio iPhone application submitted to Apple (AAPL) for approval, made headlines when it was forced to abandon the project by Sirius XM (SIRI). As we later learned, Sirius XM has its own application pending and Nicemac announced that it would discontinue its operations as of March 8, 2009.
That was then, this is now. It appears that Nicemac and Sirius may have come to an agreement of some kind. Through Twitter, Nicemac has informed us that they will be returning to the Mac this summer with a focus placed on MP3 streams, recording/iPod integration, album art, lyrics, and purchase links. This goes hand-in-hand with recent announcements by Sirius XM that they would be introducing new Apple-related applications in the second quarter.
Nicemac also posted that they have a new Mac server install
ed and that private testing has begun on their internet radio station with coding started last week on StarPlayr 3.0 for Mac. What makes this more intriguing is the screenshot of the new player which indicates Howard 100 as the selected channel (on right, click to enlarge). As this channel is ONLY available through Sirius XM, it stands to reason that Sirius XM and Nicemac have begun a new Internet Radio venture to compete with free Internet sites such as Pandora.
Position: Long SIRI, no position Apple
