Bullish calls:
Yamada Gold (AUY): ' the best-acting gold stock I follow.'
OGE Energy (OGE): ' it's at a 52-week high. Have you seen the consolidation in this business? I think ... that all these smaller utilities can be acquired. This is a $3 billion number. You can win three ways. Capital appreciation. 3.6% yield. And takeover! What's not to like?!'
Research in Motion (RIMM): 'you know that RIMM's ... got a multiple that's just too high. They're taking every one of these stocks down ... yet, I think RIMM's going to have a good quarter ... I would get ready and steel yourself for pain - $68 could go to $60 in a heartbeat. But then I would 'mon-back it. Have some faith.'
Nighthawk Radiology (NHWK): ' I think there is a doctor shortage in America - particularly a radiologist shortage - which is why I think that the idea of shipping the x-rays to Australia is smart.'
Coach Inc (COH): ' Lew Frankfurt, the Chairman and CEO ... I think that he said that he thought the quarter was going to be great. I'm going with him.'
Hexcel Corp. (HXL): 'It's flatlining ... And yet ... It's going to have a good quarter ... I looked at what happened with that quarter ... 100% of their decline was because Airbus was a customer.'
JP Morgan Chase Co. (JPM): 'It be making a move! ...stay long JPM.'
Wells Fargo & Co (WFC): ' ... if you've really got to be on the horse that's going to finish first right now, it is WFC!'
Martek Bioscience (MATK): 'I think that MATK is making a comeback ... Do not abandon that stock.'
Vertex Pharmaceuticals (VRTX): ' ... is a winner my friend! ... JNJ paid $545 million for their hepatitis drug. I say two thumbs up, way up!'
Amylin Pharma Inc. (AMLN)
Qwest Comm Intl. Inc (Q): ' this stock, which was the whipping boy, is now just unbelievable ... I am telling you that stock is going to $9.'
Zoltek Cos Inc (ZOLT): 'Some people think the multiple's too high for this carbon fiber company that is used mostly in windmills and aerospace ... they be wrong ... I would use the scale on the way down. I would not do a 'mon-back, but I do like the product portfolio... I would stay with it."
3M Co. (MMM): '... if you were going to call any company a blue chip, then MMM, which is part of the Dow & S&P 500, which is a $55 billion company - would be that blue chip.'
Bearish calls:
Goldcorp Inc. (GG): 'GG reported a not-great quarter, and that struck me as rather odd, given that the gold business could not be better than it is...'
Newmont Min. Corp (NEM): 'I still believe they have problems.'
JDS Uniphase CP (JDSU): 'I cut and ran when they did that ridiculous convertible bond ... And, you know what, it still hasn't bottomed.'
Lucent Tech Inc (LU)
Cray Inc (CRAY): 'that stock's up from $3. You have a triple. I think that CRAY is a sale here.'
IBM (IBM)
EMC CP (EMC)
Anadigics Inc (ANAD): 'I have lost so much money in radio frequency that, frankly, I am gonging myself. '
