Below are some comments from Young Broadcasting (YBTVA) from its February 23, 2005 conference call with investors.
On 2005 and the changing business model:
….we've been planning for a long time to successfully go through this year of 05. We knew that this would be a transition year. We not only would not have political business, but we will have to relationships with our network partners and there will be other stresses on the industry. Good things and stressful things. We've been working to get into a new model of how to do business. The old model of doing it the old way just isn't going to cut it. This isn't the first time that I have spoken to about this. The new model is a dynamic model which includes very heavy emphasis on what we've labeled the third leg of the stool. The first leg is local, the second leg is national, and the third leg is basically new local. We've talked about new business for years. We talked about the third leg for the last year. The third leg is really coming into its own now in 05. We have described for you in the past the third leg programs that we do it stations are really a very organized way of rounding up new business for focused selling events.
