About this author:

In late February 2009, I wrote an article in which I picked 5 stocks to watch for the short term: Beazer Homes USA (BZH), Russ Berrie & Co.(RUS), Las Vegas Sands (LVS), Bank Of America (BAC) and Libbey Inc.(LYBI.OB).

My average pick quadrupled (the worst being a near-triple).

A month ago, I also wrote "5 Ultra Low Priced Summertime Stock Suggestions"- picking 5 more stocks to watch: Jabil Circuit Inc. (JBL), Drinks Americas Holdings Ltd. (DKAM.OB), Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS), Image Entertainment Inc. (DISK) and Stemcells Inc. (STEM).

Feeling Patriotic- as we approach this July 4th Great Anniversary of our 233 year old Republic (I got socks older than that)- I decided to offer up 4 more stocks- to gander for the celebration. And since President Obama and his beautiful First Lady Michelle are the current debonair hosts that they are, it made sense (and cents) to offer up some stocks that will also continue to celebrate the country's Independence Day under their watch.

These are stocks for the gently-recovering markets. And, as the markets slowly move up over the next year, these will be good to keep an eye on.

PowerShares WilderHill Clean Energy (PBW) - If you're gonna talk Obama, you gotta talk clean energy. And if you're gonna talk clean energy, then PBW is the only way to go. I can write for hours about the benefits of wind power and all sorts of clean energy ideas, but it's been covered by the pundits. Wind is good. All Praise Wind. Today PBW is at 10 bucks. In a year from now it could easily double.

Allscripts-Misys Healthcare Solutions, Inc.(MDRX) - Even as everyone's already talking up this one, I feel compelled to jump on the bandwagon, too. Not only is it Obama-primed because of the pending health care legislation, this company is based in the Prez' former favorite stomping ground (Chicago)- so I believe all Illinois companies will become billionaires over the next 8 years. Its current $14.38 stock price could tack a 2.5 multiplier on by this time next year.

Research In Motion Ltd.(RIMM) - So he uses a Blackberry. And this fact of life, no doubt, helped this Canadian-based company's already popular product coattail a great American promotional freebie. And, yes, there's competition in them hills. But, RIMM will continue to remain as the defacto got-to-have item in this crowded house. Plus, these guys have very smart management. The kind that knows how to cut that hot Canadian mustard. The stock has a long way to go, even from here, over the next year. Will that be a double, then, Sir? Yes Sir. May I have some more?

Altria Group Inc.(MO) - Even the President has foibles. Smoking is not a good thing. Duh. Every smoker knows that- but keeps coming back for the next pack, even as the price of a pack rises a dollar here and a dollar there. This is one major addiction. Yet, whenever someone smacks the tobacco companies down, they seem to always get right back up and find ways of making even more money than before. Plus, the economic mess has severely tried the nerves of far too many over the last year- and will continue to do so over the next few years as the bull market limps up the hill (but a bull nonetheless). So, I expect that there are a lot more smokers out there these days. $34/share in a year from now. Put that in your pipe and smoke it!

I was going to include Ms. Obama's fav, J. Crew Group (JCG) as a fifth stock to wear, but the stock just didn't fit into the article. Perhaps "short" is in this season.

Have a fantastic 4th Of July, you guys- and you, too, Obamas.

Happy trading!

I agree that RIMM seems like a buying opportunity especially at today's $69.35 pull-back price. I look to RIMM's (1) dominate market share(2) entrenched position with business, (3) $90 1 year price target as point's that suggest the stock is a buy. I also believe that management has shown that it is up to the challenge of competing with giants.
