About this author:

There is an important energy (read: oil & gas) connection to the current riots in China’s Xinjiang province. While the region had been independence-minded, that is no longer conceivable to the Chinese leadership, with sad and unsurprising current results:

“The Chinese didn’t want to let Xinjiang be independent before, but after they built all the oilfields, it became absolutely impossible,” said one Muslim resident in Korla, who asked not to be named for fear of retribution by government security agents.

China's Muslims sit on top of China's oil. And when China makes a determined push for that oil, there will be a drive to "relocate" (and "concentrate") those Muslims.

in just one night -- 1000 crazy muslim nuts/uighurs seperatists rioters and 140 shot dead and 300 arrrests and 90 more after by the police and 800 casualties -- wow! That will sure teach those seperatists muslim nuts and tibetan monk nuts a serious lesson!

the extraordinary severity and swiftness of the crack down and the promptness the government handled it and anounced it tells the world loud and clear -- the Han Chinese Nation bears absolute no mercy towards seperation by any minorities.
That makes me as a Chinese really proud!
Way to Go! CHINA! You have Chinese Americans' full support!

China is not considered a rogue nation like Iran, even though it is. Welcome to the Axis of Evil.

Because most of the dead were innocent civilians killed by rioters. The west has learned its mistake from last year's reproting of Tibetan riot and begin to believe most of the deaths were caused by rioters.

My local TV news last nite mentioned a big riot in China but that was it. They're probably controlled by Bejing (or Jacko)

the security of china homeland/border areas is as vital as oil/gas. this type crackdown of dissidants/political unrest has been occuring in tibet and other strategic acquired countries for many years. there is little oil/gas in tibet, but the crackdowns in tibet. have often been brutal.
