Alabama

It's good news/bad news day for T. Boone Pickens. On the one hand, his push for natural gas vehicles seems to be gaining traction in D.C. On the other, his new V-Vehicle Company in Monroe, Louisiana is about to get a little competition from two doors down. Chinese exile Yang Rong -- former head of Brilliance China Automotive Holdings Ltd. and formerly one of China's three richest men -- is setting up shop in Alabama to produce clean-tech vehicles. No word on where the factory will be located or even what form these vehicles will take, but they'll supposedly be for sale across the U.S. Your move, Pickens. [Reuters via BusinessInsider]

NG power requires massive refueling infrastructure CAPEX; unclear there is an appetite for new or parallel (re-purposing existing facility) development.

Maybe they could fix these cars to use the propane tanks that are sold everywhere. Might be expensive that way, though.

Another thing: I wonder why some auto companies have cars that are to be sold in other parts of the world but not the USA. I know some people say it's about safety but isn't it time we in America quit being so stupid....About the crash tests, etc. I wonder how well the new Harleys do in a barrier crash test, still they are allowed to be sold in the US but not certain european cars which would do better.

Innovation and creativity for electrics and hybrids is coming from the small companies- like Aptiva in Carlsbad, CA.

We need these vehicles in 2010.

Too many big car companies are talking about 2012 and beyond. They are moving too slow.

good question. ask the car companies; not SA readers. when you get the answer, report back please. we'd also like to know, now that you've brought it up.
