Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) COO Kevin Turner said at the company ’s Worldwide Partner Conference Wednesday that the company this fall plans to open the first of its planned retail stores - right next to existing Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) stores, ZDNet reports.
Microsoft announced plans for a chain of retail stores earlier this year, but so far has provided few details. The ZDNet post reports that the stores would be more showcases for Microsoft products than full retail outlets.
Microsoft’s official comment on Turner’s disclosure, according to ZDnet: “As we progress on our retail strategy there will be scenarios where we have stores in proximity to Apple. We are on track to open stores in the Fall timeframe. Beyond that we have no additional details to share.”
