Many of the U.S. banks diversified in the past few years to get into the insurance field. Some started their insurance operations while the majority of them acquired insurance companies or agencies.

Today, large banks such as Well Fargo (WFC) derive a large amount of income from their insurance divisions. The following chart lists the top 50 U.S. bank holding companies ranked by their total Insurance income for year 2008:

    There are many different types of insurance, and many different sub-groups. It would be helpful to know whether the income derives from property/casualty, life, accident & health, title, mortgage, etc etc etc., "all of the above"?

    Yes.It would be helpful.
    I did not find the detailed split of the insurance income like you mention in the chart and report that I found. If I find the detailed info I will post it here again. Thanks for the note.
