The Chubb Corp. (NYSE:CB) is expected to report Q2 earnings after the market close today with a conference call scheduled for 5 pm.
Analysts are looking for EPS of $1.31 on revenue of $2.96B. The consensus range for EPS is $1.18 to $1.40, while the consensus range for revenue is $2.85B to $3.14B, according to First Call.
Wells Fargo recently issued a pessimistic note on Chubb. The firm predicted that the effects of the recession could more than offset Chubb's price increases, pressuring the insurer's top line. The firm, which said it had trouble finding a major catalyst for Chubb's stock, maintained a Market Perform rating on the shares.
Meanwhile, Raymond James yesterday downgraded Chubb to Outperform from Strong Buy. On a positive note, the Wall Street Journal recently quoted an RBC Capital analyst as saying that Chubb is one of several insurers which could pay out claims arising from a major hurricane without having to raise funds through the capital markets. In addition, last month Chubb declared a quarterly dividend of 35c per share.
