On Wednesday, at the 75th Annual Meeting of the College on Problems of Drug Dependence, Nektar Therapeutics (NKTR) announced positive results for the human abuse liability study for NKTR-181 which is a very promising new drug candidate in Nektar's pipeline that is being developed as an analgesic for the treatment of chronic pain. According to Nektar's President and CEO Howard Robin, "The NKTR-181 molecule has been designed to enter the CNS slowly to reduce the dopamine rush and its associated euphoria that lead to the abuse of and addiction to current opioid analgesics."
