GT Advanced Technologies (GTAT) has been going through a very tough time like other companies in the solar equipment industry, which has been affected by a ~80% drop in the solar equipment orders. Almost every company in this industry has been making losses as the revenues fell too fast for the costs to be rationalized. The solar industry expanded rapidly in 2010-2012, with the capacity reaching 60 GW whereas the solar demand touched only 30 GW in 2012.
