I have been writing a lot recently on REITs as the backup in interest rates over the past two months have knocked many entities in the space down by 10%, 15% and in some cases even 20% from their highs earlier in the year. Tuesday I bought some shares in Investors Real Estate Trust (IRET) at $8.50 a share. These shares yield 6% and the company has a solid history of outperforming its peers. Investors Real Estate Trust has been around for over 40 years but does not receive much coverage in the press as its property portfolio is located entirely in what some refer to as "flyover country."
