Sales of pickup trucks are often a sign of strength or weakness in the small business and construction sector as these types of businesses are the most common users of these vehicles.

With that in mind, Tuesday's numbers from Ford regarding F-150 sales are another strong positive signal. During the month of June, sales of F-150 trucks increased more than 20% to 68K. For the month of June, this represents the largest total since 2005. Year to date, Ford has now sold 367K F-150s. That is also an increase of over 20%, and is the highest YTD sales total since 2006.

Slowly but surely, different sectors and aspects of the economy are returning to more normalized pre-financial crisis levels, and with this morning's sales totals from Ford, pickup truck sales can be added to the list.
