American Superconductor - Long Shot At A Big Payday

American Superconductor (NASDAQ:AMSC) is a provider of technology and equipment to the wind energy and electricity industries. AMSC is mainly a seller of wind turbine core electrical components and full wind turbine electrical control systems (ECS). It has also made pilot sales of high capacity super conducting equipment to customers like the TresAmigas project. The company saw spectacular growth between 2008 and 2010, as it sold its electric components to major wind turbine makers in Asia. However the company's stock price crashed in 2011, after it was revealed that its largest customer Sinovel refused to buy the core electrical components for 1.5 and 3 MW turbines and also refused to make payments for prior deliveries.
