Stay Away From Great Plains Energy

Great Plains Energy (NYSE:GXP) is the parent company of Kansas City Power and Light and Greater Missouri Operations Company. It has a diverse generation platform of more than 6,600 MW of capacity. Coal is used for 83% of the power generation while nuclear fuel makes up approximately 14% of the remaining generation. I am interested in this stock because of the states it serves, Kansas and Missouri. In 2012, Kansas registered a real GDP of only 1.4%, while Missouri's GDP growth (0.4%) ranked close to the bottom, nationally. With dismal growth being recorded in the two states where Great Plains Energy operates, is it worth investing in this power producer?
