The DESLI Global 50 which tracks the change in short interest for the 50 largest global companies was virtually unchanged Monday. However, the U.K. jumped by nearly 13%, with Europe down 1% and Japan climbing 2%. Please go to our website for more information on the DESLI index.
In Europe, stock prices stabilized, although some concerns have developed around the recent widening in credit spreads. We expect results from Brixton in the U.K., Telekom Austria (TKAGY.PK) and PA Resources (PRSAF.PK) in Sweden. PA Resources have a short base of 17%, up 65% on the month.
We expect company earnings announcements from Deere & Company (DE), and Flowers Foods (FLO). The short base in Deere & Company stands at 1.8% and has been declining steadily over the past few months. The stock price is up about 30% over recent weeks. Home Depot (HD) reported falling profits, and the stock price dropped slightly more than the market. We also expect earnings reports from Qantas Airways (QAN), Amcor (AMCRY.PK) in Australia, and Nippon Express in Japan. Qantas has seen its short base which currently stands at around 2%; increase 20% over the past month. The share price has also seen an upward trend.
