Oh, this just gets better and better. Or perhaps sadder and sadder.

In a post Friday morning we discussed Flickr’s questionable decision to remove a photoshopped image of President Obama that makes him look like the Heath Ledger (Joker) character from The Dark Knight. In that post we quoted Flickr’s director of community Heather Champ who said “We very much value freedom of speech and creativity” in an explanation about why the image was removed from Flickr. We called B.S.

Now Flickr has shut off further comments on that forum post, which was most definitely not headed in a pro-Flickr direction. In his message shutting off the discussion, Zack Sheppard reiterates how important political discussion is to Flickr:

Political discussions and expression are definitely allowed here on Flickr. We don’t want to squelch political discussion, but if something is in violation of the Community Guidelines or copyright law and it’s reported, it will be taken down whether it’s a kitten, a sunset, or something political.

It looks like this thread has devolved into antics and gone off the rails so I’m shutting it down. The OPs question has been answered here. This image was removed because the Yahoo! Copyright Team received a complete Notice of Infringement.

This is fantastically absurd. Yahoo (YHOO) is quite literally trumpeting that they support political discussion in the very message they are sending to close down a political discussion.

I just posted this as a comment on a great article about natural gas that the author
expressed a political statement about the Loved One from Chicago politics.
Best not to say ,write ,draw or even think ill of chosen one . Freedom of speech is one sided , just ask those leaning left.

Government policy is a part of a business decision. Politics is a bigger part of that decision !
Anytime anyone says something about Mr or Mrs Telepromterman the libs/dems and leftist get that "Oh How Dare They Say That " and come to their rescue. Get over it you will hear more and more .
Now back to profiting from ones business decisions we all need to learn to do that no matter who is in the White House.
While GM farts around with batteries , T Boone Pickens is really on to something to with natural gas . Why because the left is against it . OOPs political opinion
long ENER but natural gas sure looks like a much better long term play.

    Cheers, DuffBeer

Why don't you start a site and make Obama look like the demon, or your preferred villain, or as a man with the face deformed to look like "L".

Will solve the flickr problem, eh?

What the frick does Flickr's taking down of notices have to do with investing?

It's a Sunday. Go out and get a life.

Negative images of Bush = OK
Negative images of Obama= not OK
What else is there to say? Media bias in action.
From old media (e.g. 60 Minutes forging documents to create a negative story on Bush) to new media (censorship of negative images of Obama based on political opinions of Flickr staff). It is the same.

What does this have to do with investing? If the trend continues, you will NOT be getting investment information deemed 'harmful' to Obama.

    Wake up young America.

The double standard is alive and well in the one party press. Note the one sided coverage by Associated Press of the Honduran political dust up. Every photo and article is sympathetic to one side. Note the coverage of disgraced Governor Sanford in South Carolina with the news blackout about former Senator Edwards of North Carolina. Looks like we have English language versions of Trud, Pravda, Isvetia, and The Daily Worker.

Obama parishioners: nobody likes you – take your Atheism, Fascism, other “isms” etc. and stick them straight up you’re backward a$$e$.

As aside to everyone else: take note that the Obama Parishioners have offered no explanation or retort in response to the author’s observations. Rather and instead, they’ve resorted to their ever so predictable antics, seeking to marginalize, stifle and demonize dissenters. They probably think the earth is still flat too.

What does this all have to do with investing? If we don't trust our leaders because of right wingnut garbagetalk, then we have no faith in our country and its economy. Then we batten down the hatches while we watch the populace turn into carbon copies of Ruwandans and Kosovoans. We don't invest, we hoard, or leave the country for our own safety.
The right wing press/radio propagandists in this country have made it easy to spot the people who hate america. They are the ones who parrot the same right wing divisive and hateful phrases. News blackouts on Edwards?Only in the imagination of right wing aka conservatives who have no critical thinking skills. If the right didn't take such a hateful tone, the left would ignore their diatribes. But we in the center and the left were in danger of having our windshields broken with bricks if we dared criticize the Bush/Cheney/ Rumsfeld bunch. I'm sick of the right trying to make the rest of us look evil because we stand up for ourselves and our elected president. I'll tell my pastor you called me an atheist and that you need our prayers. Then I'll call my school superintendent and insist he get fascism on and socialism on the curriculum so our young will know both when they see them and not ascribe them to people they simply disagree with.
Quit trying to turn Americans into warring factions with your tv/radio anti-obama hate speech!!!!!!!!

Very disappointed in Flickr for its "censorship". Very disappointed for the deception and underhanded dealings that pervade our political system. Very disappointed in both Republicans and Democrats, local and national, for turning our country into a third rate state. And, I'm no right wing wacko!!!!!!!!!!!

    Khyber Pass,

When you talk to your preacher, ask him how to reconcile your Christianity with your support of a man who while as a legislator in Ill, he supported legislation allowing for babies to be killed, outside of the womb, if born during an abortion. You might also ask him for help reconciling your Christianity with the fact that you’re supporting a president whose party openly supports Gays, Transsexuals in every capacity, adoption, marriage, acceptance in the military, etc. You can also address stem cell research with him, pornography etc. Don’t’ forget to ask him to help you understand why Obama is the first president in recent memory to become a foe and not a friend of the state of Israel.

When you talk to the school superintendant, ask them teach you what the definition of Fascism is and how it correlates to the Democratic party of today and the legislation they’ve both passed and are still seeking to pass.

Regarding those "middle of the road" folks you referenced, the latest polls show this segment of the population to be siding with Conservatives and not the Looney Left.

Lastly: Do you know what both B. H. Obama and Osama Bin Laden have in common? They both have friends who hate and who have killed Americans. [Bill Ayers, Weather Underground]

In due course of time, B.H. Obama will regarded as the most inept and disastrous president in our nation’s history.

So, does anybody have ANY evidence that Yahoo! ever received a takedown notice for a Bush parody and failed to act on it? The claims of bias are completely unsubstantiated. If you've got evidence of bias, please share it.

Anybody who thinks there was a news blackout on the Edwards story was not paying attention. This was big-deal news in all the major news channels. Probably bigger than the Sanford story, though there are things about the Sanford story that make it much more troublesome (like *possible* use of public funds).

Um - censorship is when the government limits speech. A publishing company is free to set set its own standards and expose its own preferences. A company that, like Yahoo!, which in this case is providing a forum, rather than publishing its own content, has a right to impose standards and has an OBLIGATION to obey the law in responding to takedown notices. Such notices are not optional.
