Seeking Alpha
About this author:

The founders of the Galleon Group, a hedge fund started in 1997 and which has a technology and healthcare focus, have been charged with insider trading. Galleon is one of the 250 hedge and institutional investment funds that are available on AlphaClone. The fund's Top 10 Holding Clone, which invests quarterly in the the fund's ten largest holdings at the time they are disclosed, is up 48.2% so far this year but has not performed very well over time returning a negative 3.9% annualized over five years and a dismal negative 18% annualized since 2000 (all returns as of 10/15/09 close). We thought we'd list the fund's 50 largest holdings below (as of 6/30/09). Now that the fund will almost certainly wind down, perhaps there are some good short opportunities.

Short eBay, perhaps? I have done so successfully a couple of times in the past, but have no position currently. They report earnings next week, or so I just read; perhaps we won't have long to wait to see how this one plays out.

I need a good short in my portfolio now, given my overall long positions, so may have to give this some more thought. Better think quickly!

Interesting list of stocks - I don't see IBM? Also, since it is a hedge fund, which are longs and which are shorts, or better yet, where are the shorts? Would those shorts be considered good "long" opportunities?

The list is based on June 30th '09, it's more than 3 months old list. The current list could have changed, not sure if this list helps other investors.

If you could let us know what they bought last Wednesday, Thursday and Friday that would be great - because big news on those stocks are probably coming out this week!

The top names aren't as interesting as the smaller names where Galleon has a +2% share of the company. Here is the list.

SEC rules require disclosue of longs, but not of shorts. Also, the rules are limited to US stocks. Foreign holdings exempt. That is why you don't see shorts included in the holdings. Abnd of course the holdings could have changed since the reporting date.

the list would be better if it was based on the % of ownership. Apple is clearly not a short based on this. Also, not so sure you can't count on a massive wind down as a large % of the money is Raj's and i don't see him being forced to cash out much.

That's what I kind of suspected - since I don't do shorts are there any good technical hedge funds out there?
