Warning: The first two paragraphs contain major spoilers for the classic movie Gremlins, which I just watched this weekend for the first time. For most people, this probably isn't a problem since the movie is from the 1980s, but you've been warned nonetheless.
In the current stock market there are a lot of interesting and potentially attractive insurances stocks out there. This is probably at least partially driven by over-anxious investor concern over the effects of future Fed tapering, but that's a subject for another article. Looking at Validus Holdings (NYSE:VR) briefly one might also think it belongs in the same category. After all it's a cheap stock by earnings and price-to-book measures.
