Mid-America Apartment Communities, Inc. (NYSE:MAA) completed its merger (or buyout, depending upon how you see it) of Colonial Properties Trust as of today, 10/01/2013. MAA now becomes one of the largest owner/operators of apartment property in the USA.
As a matter of fact, the company has an equity capitalization of about 4.8 billion but a total market capitalization of $8.3 billion. To me that looks like a mid cap disguised as a small cap stock, or is it the other way around? In addition, MAA was just added to the MidCap 400 list.
