About this author:

The ChannelAdvisor Same Store Sales October results are in and there were a couple of interesting trends that could indicate how the Q4 holiday season is going to shake out.

This figure shows the results for 2009 so far graphically: (click to enlarge)

October_sss

  • Amazon (AMZN) led the pack (as usual) with 61% y/y growth - up from Septembers 55%
  • Overall at ChannelAdvisor we saw things pick up overall very nicely from the high single digits to 17% y/y.
  • eBay (EBAY) had a slight tick down to 4.73% from Septembers 5.1% - that's small enough that I don't think it's cause for any concern.
  • Comscore (SCOR) hasn't put out their October numbers, but I suspect they will be flat to down slightly.

17 days to Black Friday!

SSS data disclaimer:

The ChannelAdvisor SSS data represents the combined results of over 3000 retailers. ChannelAdvisor's mix may be materially different from that of eBay, Amazon or other channels.

Disclosure: I am long Amazon and Google. eBay is an investor in ChannelAdvisor where I am CEO.

When you're sitting on a couple of listings and those listings have only had one or two hits for the week - then its cause for great concern! Where are the buyers? If they are all frequenting diamond sellers then Ebay had no need for my fees - in fact I would say they're taking my fees under false pretenses. For the next two weeks Ebay is giving collectible sellers a break.....or is it simply for some fast cash from the suckers who just won't stop listing? I'm thinking its the latter! Ebay deserves to go DOWN and I'll continue making "noise."

"Amazon Leads the Pack in October Same Store Sales"

Just one of the reasons that Amazon's shares are trading for over $100 more than eBay's shares.
    Another reason:
"eBay is a Dead (just a venue) Walking"

where did I put my wooden stake...........

Contrary to all his MBA-leant instincts, the “eBafia Don” has decided, in his typically incompetent, deceptive manner, to court those “noisy” collectibles sellers again. Such utter desperation indicates to me that the October figures must be predicting that the Xmas quarter is looming as another—rightly deserved—disaster for eBay. It’s a shame though that so many small business people have to be hurt at the same time.

The buckwits in control of eFay may as will be headless turkeys, and one has to keep asking the question, how can the head turkey, “Noise” Donahoe, possibly survive another Xmas.

To Anyone who constantly says Ebay sellers are flocking to Amazon :
I checked into selling on Amazon as a Pro Seller.
    It Is Not Feasable.
    $40 a month "Subscription" fee.
15% "Referal" fee PER ITEM SOLD.
3% taken by the FORCED "electronic Only" payment method.
Amazon is Not an option, unless maybe you're just a Middleman.
