Two weeks ago, EOG Resources (EOG) surprised the market by announcing a series of exceptionally strong well results in the western part of the Eagle Ford Shale play. Initial production rates for a dozen best wells that EOG brought on production during the third quarter in LaSalle, McMullen and Atascosa Counties, Texas ranged from 2,000 barrels of oil per day to 2,800 barrels of oil per day, plus substantial amounts of liquids-rich gas (map below). These production rates beat the average IP in the area by a wide margin.
