Bullish calls:
Genentech (DNA): 'It's not done going up, because it has a great franchise. I want to own DNA, and it goes higher!'
Caterpillar (CAT): 'I want to own CAT, under $70. Then I'd give it my blessing. Only one thumb up, because I'm not crazy about the cyclical rally.'
CSX (CSX): 'Pull the trigger tomorrow morning. Do me a favor - it's going higher - double down!'
Sinclair Broadcasting (SBGI): 'Good yield. Inexpensive stock. Making good money.'
CBS (CBS): 'I also like CBS.'
Disney (DIS):' I also like DIS.'
Wendy's (WEN): 'WEN is breaking out. It's got the buyback; it is such an up stock, it didn't give up an inch in a down 90 day. And when the market tanked today, it stayed up. WEN is a good stock.'
Monsanto (MON): 'I always have to come back to my favorite biotech in disguise ....Mon!'
Varian Medical (VAR): 'General Electric (GE) did have a fantastic medical equipment business uptick. I think that the same applies to VAR. I want to buy it.'
Cognizant Technology (CTSH): 'Sunshine, that be going higher. That's an Indian company that does consulting... I like CTSH.'
Reliance Steel (RS): 'I've been working a lot on Reliant Steel, which seems like a very cheap stock. Why don't you go with RS?'
Borders Group (BGP)
Kaydon (KDN): ' ... they all say that aerospace has come alive with pleasure. Your KDN has got that.'
E*Trade (ET): 'My feeling is that ET has gotten just too cheap. And the guy who runs it, Mitch Kaplan, he didn't just fall off a turnip truck ... I want to bank with Mitch at $22. I'm giving it one thumb up.'
J.C. Penney (JCP): 'I'm going to send you to JCP, under $70.'
Staples (SPLS)
Nucor (NUE): 'NUE is barely a cyclical, the way I look at it. This is a mini-mill that is run the way Koreans run steel mills. This is one of the best run steel companies I have ever seen. At $54, I bless it. Under $50, it's a steal!'
LM Ericsson Telephone (ERIC): 'ERIC doesn't have a problem. ERIC is now my #1 name.'
Nokia (NOK): 'NOK is my #2 name.'
Hershey (HSY): 'I always like to buy HSY when we go into Halloween. Believe it or not, people are stupid enough to actually do that trade. I think it's 1 down and 4 up; I'd stick with it.'
Bearish calls:
Evergreen Solar (ESLR): 'Are you about money, or are you about social investing? We do not care for solar products. We think that they are in bear market mode, because we think oil is coming down.'
Flamel Technologies (FLML)
JDS Uniphase (JDSUD): 'JDSU can run, but it cannot hide. It has done a 10 for 1 reserve split. It has changed its symbol to JDSUD, and it still stinks! And I still want to sell it. I think it's awful.'
XM Satellite Radio (XMSR): 'If XMSR goes down another 2 or 3 points, you know that Mel Karmazen is going to wake up, and he is going to buy the company. He runs Sirius Satellite Radio (SIRI). Together, these guys stand, divided they fall.'
Gibraltar Industries (ROCK)
Family Dollar Stores (FOD): 'You know, I've got so many retailers that I like, and that one's had a nice run.'
Jacobs Engineering (JEC): ' I like infrastructure, but infrastructure's been taking it, and I'll tell you, people are gonging them. I think that JEC is cheap, but I've been wrong. I've got to take a 'don't buy, don't buy,' because I've hurt too many people in infrastructure.'
ConocoPhillips (COP): 'When oil breaks from $56, where I said it was going, that stock, COP, is going to get hurt. I don't want you to be in COP.'
Illumina (ILMN): 'You ring the register. That stock was up 7 points today. And that is a biotech derivative company - they make equipment for biotech. I think that move has been made.'
Medtronic (MDT): 'It's flatlined. It's dead money. I don't want to touch it.'
P.F. Chang's (PFCB): 'No! PFCB is the only restaurant chain I don't like.'
