Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (BRK.B, BRK.A) has shown its holdings as of the close of business for December 31, 2009. These are therefore Warren Buffett’s most recent holdings going into 2010.

Warren Buffett practiced what he preached in 2009; his new buys were all American companies, rather than the general market consensus of buying international stocks through the 4th quarter of 2009.

Buffett eliminated stock positions in Norfolk Southern (NYSE:NSC) and Union Pacific (NYSE:UNP) and purchased 100% of Burlington Northern (BNI) as his railroad play. Buffett also eliminated his position in NRG Energy (NYSE:NRG) in the 4th quarter of 2009. NRG hit a yearly high in October but Buffett may have been too concerned about upcoming deals to enter wind and solar energy industries.

Buffett increased his position in favorites, Wal-Mart (NYSE:WMT) and Wells Fargo (NYSE:WFC). He also added to Becton Dickinson (NYSE:BDX), Iron Mountain (NYSE:IRM) and Republic Services (NYSE:RSG). In contrast, Buffett decreased positions in oil companies: ConocoPhillipps (NYSE:COP) and Exxon (NYSE:XOM). He also decreased positions in health insurers United Health (NYSE:UNH) and Wellpoint (WLP). Both of these industries have dark clouds overhead. I am guessing Buffett decreased his positions in J&J (NYSE:JNJ) and P&G (NYSE:PG) to raise capital for other investments. Buffett continues to decrease his position in Moody's (NYSE:MCO), and I see this being eliminated over time.

Here are Warren Buffett’s holdings and accompanying notes for Berkshire by changes in stock positions from the December 31, 2009 report filing.
