Cramer's Mad Money - Finish Line May Win The Race (1/13/14)

by: Miriam Metzinger

Stocks discussed on the in-depth session of Jim Cramer's Mad Money TV Program, Monday January 13.

CEO Interview: Glenn Lyon, Finish Line (NYSE:FL). Other stock mentioned: Macy's (NYSE:M)

Few areas are more hit or miss than apparel. Finish Line (FL) gave a 50% gain last year and recently reported a 4 cent earnings beat on revenues that rose 22.9% and a 7.1% gain in same store sales. However, apparel is a treacherous place to be right now. Nevertheless, FL might thrive on easy comparisons. CEO Glenn Lyon explains, "The sneaker business is not as challenged. In tough times, kids still need sneakers." Macy's (M) has seen rising sales for Finish Line. "We have to look for different means of distribution," Lyon said. Cramer thinks FL is still a good story.

Beam (NYSE:BEAM), Juniper (NYSE:JNPR), Merck (NYSE:MRK), Lululemon (NASDAQ:LULU), SodaStream (NASDAQ:SODA), Wendy's (NYSE:WEN)

With a 179 point drop in the Dow, Cramer thinks that the market is forgetting all of the good news. The takeover of Beam (BEAM) at a 25% premium was a bright spot, and Juniper (JNPR), an until-now underperforming tech, saw some upside. Merck (MRK) rose on chatter that it might sell its animal health division. However, retail is not so smooth, with SodaStream (SODA) reporting disappointing numbers. Wendy's (WEN) pre-announced better than expected numbers, but the stock didn't move. Lululemon (LULU) fell disastrously. The market is sending mixed messages.

CEO Interview: Bill Cobb, H&R Block (NYSE:HRB)

H&R Block (HRB) is a great tax season play. One of every six tax returns is handled by HRB. CEO Bill Cobb stated, "We are the fourth largest retailer in the country." With the added complexity of Obamacare, more people are going to HRB for tax help. The company has been successful in issuing special debit cards for tax returns. The stock may see some upside, because, as Cobb says, "The Affordable Care Act is the biggest change to the tax code in over 20 years." Cramer commented, "This is a very good story."
