Below we provide the year-to-date returns for a number of international equity indices measured in both local currency and US dollars. If the performance in dollars is less than the performance in local currency, the dollar is up against its local currency for the year, and vice versa.
In terms of local currency, the S&P 500 has been the best performing index of the countries highlighted year to date. Europe has underperformed the US in both regards, but because the Euro is down versus the dollar on the year, its returns in dollar terms are much worse. Both Mexico and Canada have outperformed the US in dollar terms year to date, as the Peso and Canadian dollar have outperformed.
