The word on the street is that Samsung (OTC:SSNLF) is having significant difficulties ramping Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) next generation A8 system-on-chip on its 20-nanometer manufacturing process. On the other hand, it seems that Taiwan Semiconductor (NYSE:TSM), which has long been tipped as the lead supplier to Apple for this chip, seems to be executing well as the chips are reportedly now in their production ramp.
However, it seems that the difficulties on Samsung's side of things are so severe that Samsung won't be part of the A8 supply chain at all. While this is very obviously a boon for TSMC, this also has a very real benefit for my favorite OSAT ("outsourced assembly and test")...
