turkeyWe looked at the average return of the Dow during the shortened Thanksgiving work week to see how the index has performed over time. We went back to 1942 since President Roosevelt signed a bill into law on November 26, 1941 making the fourth Thursday in November the official Thanksgiving Day.

The Dow has averaged a gain of 0.59% from Monday's open to Friday's close during the week that includes Thanksgiving Day. The gain of 59 bps is much higher than the average gain of 17 bps for all weeks.
