A stock becomes overbought when its price trades higher than one standard deviation above its 50-day moving average and vice versa for oversold (a stock's trading range is one standard deviation above and below its 50-day).

Below is a list of the S&P 500 stocks that are currently the most overbought and oversold. VeriSign (VRSN), for example, is 13.58% above the top of its trading range. Interestingly, 3 of the 10 most overbought are homebuilders (KBH, LEN, DHI). While GM remains the best performing Dow stock on the year, it is currently the most oversold stock in the S&P 500.
