A Quick Guide to Solar Energy Stocks

The Democrats' capture of a majority of both the House and Senate in the last election has led some analysts to believe that solar energy companies should do well. The following are a list of the pure plays and semi-pure plays in the solar energy fields. Companies which have a very small portion of their business in solar were excluded [e.g. GE, PG&E]. The list shows the name of the company, the stock market symbol, what exchange the stock is traded on, and their business:

• Canadian Solar (CSIQ) [NASDAQ] Involved in the design, development, manufacture, and sale of solar module products

• Carmanah Technologies Corporation [CMH.TO Toronto Stock Exchange] Supplier of solar-powered LED lighting, solar power systems & equipment and LED-illuminated signage.

• DayStar Technologies (DSTI) [NASDAQ] Developer, manufacturer, and marketer of Photovoltaic Foil products that convert sunlight directly into electricity.

• Deli Solar [USA], Inc. (DLSL.OB) [OTC Bulletin Board] Designer, manufacturer, and seller of solar hot water heaters, coal-fired boilers, and space heating products.

You are missing a lot of key companies in your list. Suntech Power and MEMC Electronics are key companies in the solar energy sector.

I see you have not listed PacWind. There website has an investment link, but I haven't checked it out. Have you? Just curious, as their product is a turbine/cylindrical wind mill which can mounted atop a pole, or on the roof of a house/business. Looks awesome. Jay Leno actually is highlighted on the sight as he's had one added to his garage. Also, Ed Bagley is a spokesperson for PacWind. Would be curious on your take. THANKS

Keep in mind that the investment in solar doesn't necessarily mean a stock investment. I am at a privately held company that is consistently seeking investors to fund projects backed by municipal contract. The return on some of these more immediate projects will make the stock investment in solar look puny on return.
