The near-collapse of our banking system almost destroyed the fabric of our economic structure. Yet, there were a few financials that actually benefited from the disaster, opportunistically buying up weakened banks on the cheap. I have reviewed many of these regional banks, including Home BancShares (NASDAQ:HOMB), Bank of the Ozarks (NASDAQ:OZRK), and Simmons First National (NASDAQ:SFNC). By and large, they all have followed the same play book during the Great Recession and its aftermath: Purchase multiple failed banks, resolve the problem loans, and gather a stream of high interest payments.
