Amyris: Progressing Nicely Despite Some Large Risks

Amyris, Inc. (AMRS) is an integrated renewable products company utilizing an industrial synthetic biology platform capable of taking genetically-engineered yeast to create select products derived from petroleum. The company utilizes Brazilian sugarcane as a primary feedstock which it uses to feed its yeast in large conventional fermentation vessels.

To date, Amyris has been largely focused on its primary building block molecule of farnesene. With farnesene, the company expects to address a diverse range of product markets including fuels, lubricants, polymers, flavors, and personal care products. With its technology, Amyris remains potentially poised in the future as a leading company in the field of industrial biotechnology.
