The Hartford Financial Services Group (NYSE:HIG) is one of the largest US property and casualty insurers in the country and is probably the best-performing large P&C firm in my opinion. HIG's had a dynamite 2013, and 2014 seems to be shaping up well also. The company has been restructuring its operations over the last few years including its recent decision to divest its Japanese operations. These changes, while making short term comparisons a little difficult and not without risk for the company, are still a positive step that should help the firm to operate more efficiently and return more cash to shareholders in my opinion.
